Bear Lake Trail

San Isabel National Forest

This trail offers views of the West Peak and Trinchera Peak. Trail is located at 10,480′ elevation.

Managed by the San Isabel National Forest, San Carlos Ranger District. 

Location: This trail has two trailheads.

  • South Trailhead: From La Veta take CO Highway 12 south 14.2 miles to Bear Lake/Blue Lake Campground sign (Forest Road 422). Turn right onto FR 422 (dirt) and drive 3.5 miles to Blue Lake Day-use Area and trailhead on left.

  • North Trailhead: From La Veta take CO Highway 12 south 14.2 miles to Bear Lake/Blue Lake Campground sign (Forest Road 422). Turn right onto FR 422 (dirt) and drive for 5 miles to the Bear Lake Day-use Area on the right.
