Join La Veta Trails at La Veta Mercantile, 300 S. Main St., La Veta, for a Post Spring Fire Talk – Five Years Later. Manuel Molles, Derek Sokoloski, Mary Anne Nelson, and Doug Brgoch will present an update on ecosystem recovery five years after the Spring Fire.

This talk is a follow-up to their discussions in 2018 and 2019, and will focus on ecosystem recovery across the Spring Fire burn scar along gradients of fire severity, including soil properties and regrowth and survival of herbaceous plants, shrubs, and trees. Fire mitigation, flooding, erosion, and altered hydrology will also be discussed. Manuel is a Professor Emeritus at the University of New Mexico, Derek is the Southeast Area Manager of the Colorado State Forest Service, Mary Anne is a Professor Emerita at the University of New Mexico, and Doug Brgoch is the Mayor of the Town of La Veta and recently retired District Water Commissioner. If you have questions, contact Judy Fisher at judywfisher8@gmail.com.

Please reserve your seat so we have a good head count. Tickets are FREE.
