This trail offers views of Cuchara Valley and the old Cuchara Ski Resort. It can be a loop trail by connecting to the Baker Trail #1301 and Dodgeton Trail #1302. Another loop is possible but requires using CO Highway 12.
There are two trailheads. The trail starts at 8,600 and gains 1,880′ in elevation.
Location:
North Trailhead: From La Veta take CO Highway 12 to County Road 421, travel 7 miles west to trailhead.
South Trailhead: From La Veta take CO Highway 12 south 14.2 miles to Bear Lake/Blue Lake Campground sign (Forest Road 422). Turn right onto FR 422 (dirt) and drive for 5 miles to the Bear Lake Day-use Area on the right. There is a day-use fee for users not registered as a camper.
